Cleopatra. Rome and the magic of Egypt
Cleopatra exhibition in Rome, from 12 October 2013 to 2 February 2014. Rome’s Chiostro del Bramante will be hosting a major exhibition focusing on the figure of Cleopatra, the last queen of Egypt (69 B.C. – 30 B.C.). Her fascinating life, her influence on the political events and the relationship between Rome and Egypt. The exhibition counts more than 200 works from leading national and international museums, such as the National Roman Museum, the National Archaeological Museum in Naples, the Egyptian Museum in Turin, the Egyptian Museum in Florence, the Vatican Museums, The Brooklyn Museum of Art in New York and the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.
Presents aspects of ancient Egyptian culture, inseparably linked to the historical events that forged key relationships and gave rise to economic, religious and cultural interests between Rome and Ptolemaic Egypt. The works on show form a stunning blend of art and history: precious sculptures in granite, basalt and schist from Egypt’s famous quarries, Greek and Carrara marble, alabaster, multicoloured mosaics and frescoes, bronzes, glazed terracotta, gold and silver, glass, ivory and gemstones.
